Ho hum just a Thursday afternoon

It's Thursday afternoon and the work day is almost over. I only have to wake up and go to work 13 more times and then it's all about summer vacation.

Right now, I'm trying to decide if I should stick around after work for an alternative health fair. They have free acupuncture, massage and energy healing all right outside my office. How can a girl say no? But Dan is working today and staying for this means that I'll be picking up Joaquin later than usual from the in-laws. That makes me sad.

I have the summer almost all mapped out. We'll be doing swimming classes on Thursday mornings. On Tuesday mornings starting in July we'll be doing a music class and then we have our Monday and Friday playgroups all summer long. I so can't wait!

Hot Bods

On the Memorial Day holiday, a few girlfriends and I went for breakfast sans husbands and children. At one point we had a long conversation as to what sports players have the best bodies. It was concluded that soccer players have the hottest bodies. When I got home I was greeted with an email by one of the gals with a link to this. I found it hilarious and titillating all at the same time. Enjoy.

16 days.

I have 16 days left of work until summer vacation. 16 days. I have two very big IEP meetings on Wednesday, so tomorrow will be spent getting prepared for those. Wednesday I'll be in meetings all day, Thursday is a plain old day and Friday the kids are there for only a half day. This week should fly by and then after that I only have 12 days left. But those last two will be Graduation and a super short two hour clean up day. So really, after this week I only have 10 days left.

I think I can I think I can I think I can.

One is silver and the other's gold.

On Saturday we went to a friend's birthday BBQ. Dan and I used to be all about the bar and music scene and all of the peeps there were old mutual friends of ours from back in that day. There are just a few others that have taken the leap into parent hood, but for the most part, everybody else is happily childless as are most of the get-togethers. So, since we've had Joaquin we've only been to a handful of events, and don't see them nearly as much as we would like. I'm so happy we made it to this one. I got to chit chat with girlfriends and catch up on gossip, Dan got to have a beer or few with some of the guys and Joaquin loved hamming it up. Joaquin is such a social butterfly, he jumped in to the arms of any uber stylish hipster willing to have him and danced to DJ Quick with a small crowd cheering him on. That's my boy.

On Sunday, Joaquin's girlfriend, Lila, had her second birthday party. Joaquin likes older women. It was a beautiful day with beautiful friends and many little ones running amok. At one point I looked around and realized that all of these friendships were made in the past year and a half since I've had Joaquin. It was such an incredible feeling to know that I have surrounded myself with such great women. Even though we haven't known each other for years and years like my older friends, I know these women support me and my new family. I'm so looking forward to this summer when I can spend more time with them all again at playgroups and maybe even a sewing or crafty kind of class. Only three more weeks!!

My Sister's Wedding

My little sister got married on March 15 and we finally have pictures! This wedding was so close to a disaster, but somehow it pulled itself out of the grave and turned into an incredible party.

It only rained one Saturday in March, and that happened to be March 15th. It was cloudy all day and then the clouds started to finally give way just as the ceremony was about to start. Luckily they held back and it didn't full on rain until after that first kiss. It was on and off for the rest of the evening. Joaquin was the ring bearer and I was a bridesmaid. I just loved our dresses and I have to admit, Joaquin was darn cute.

I love this picture of her, she looks so was right after the ceremony and before all the chaos really began.

The tables were all set up to a super cool jazz theme, but hardly anybody got to enjoy them. The seating arrangement went out the window as half of the guests crammed themselves inside my parent's house while the others ate outside in the rain.

The photographer managed to do an incredible job, especially considering the circumstances. But because of the rain, it took forever to get the formal photos done, in fact as my sis and I were taking this photo it started to pour on us.

Cecilia pasted a pretty good smile on her face for most of it, but I caught a glimpse of her right around this moment. She just looked so sad and overwhelmed. My poor little sister.

But like I said, somehow this party just wouldn't die. The people inside were having a blast and the dance floor was rockin'. The rain let up just enough to let the guests have their fun.

Seriously, this turned out to be one of the most fun weddings ever. Because of the craziness, people ended up mingling with people they never would have talked to. At one point all of Ceci and Brandon's punk rocker friends were playing dice at the dining table, while our family was laughing and talking in the living room and family friends were chit chatting in the family room. It was surreal and so awesome. All the people that wanted to be there for Ceci and Brandon stuck around and made the best of it.

I'm so happy for the two of them, they are so great together, they both so totally rock and they have many many people that love them to death, including Joaquin.

Bad Haircut

This morning I attempted to trim off Joaquin's mullet. He's a squirmy little guy so I just managed to cut it off, straight across. There wasn't any layering or tapering, just a big step. It kind of ended up looking like a bowl haircut, but only in the back. Seriously, it didn't look so hot, but at least it wasn't a mullet.

A bit later Iris and the fam came over for a "throw the kids under the sprinklers" party, complete with beer and margaritas.

sprinkler party!

She took a look at Joaquin's new do and was not impressed.

bad haircut

So after they left I had another go at it. This time I took out the clippers. Not a good idea. I just took out a big chunk. So I brought the scissors back out to try and fix that.

really bad haircut

I know. I know.

Joaquin took a bit of a nap and when he woke up I took another try. It's a little better, but still not good.

could be worse?

It really only looks this bad right under the bright light of the flash. Under normal lighting, you can hardly tell. And it looks even better when he's looking up.

you can hardly tell!

You see, this is why I pay people to cut my kid's hair. Poor guy, at least it grows fast.

Our Disneyland trip totally rocked!

I am so proud of Joaquin.  He totally rocked our trip and not a single meltdown in sight.  I could bore you with all the silly details, but I won't, so instead I'll show you a bunch of pics.

It was all pretty standard Disneyland stuff. We did lots of rides and lots of walking.  Monday was all Disneyland and then Tuesday was all California Adventure.  Both days were pretty much stress free and all about going with the flow. Joaquin even napped at his usual time. Did I mention that he so totally rocks?

He's planning his next move in Toon Town. I don't know where or who he learned to stand like this, but he does it all the time now. He just leans and crosses his legs and looks around like he's got a lot to think about. It cracks me up!

And then my sad attempt...there was just too much to do, he could not waste any precious time with a picture with is parents...duh!

Joaquin was loving the ride, I was kind of freaking out. Something about flying through the air with my baby on my lap is just scary!

Happy Mama's Day!!!

So far it's been a nice morning. Joaquin said "stinky butt" loud and clear for the first time while I changed his diaper this morning. I mean really, how awesome is that?

We are s.lo.w.l.y. getting ready and packed for a couple days at Disneyland. Dan and I used to go about once every couple of years pre-baby. We like it, and we have fun there. So, now is Joaquin's first time. We're going to drive up later today, hang out at a cheesy hotel across the street and then wake up bright and early and do Disneyland. Then we'll do California Adventure the next day. I'm optimistic it won't be too stressful. We're not a "must see it all" kind of family. More like a wander around, hit up a few rides, people-watch and find booze kind of family. We set a great example for Joaquin.

I was going to post yesterday about a rather traumatic day at work on Friday. But I think I'm moving on. The incident actually put me into quite an anxiety stink all day yesterday and I was on the brink of cancelling our trip. But I think I'm feeling better. You may hear the story if the images keep popping up in my mind and I need to get it all out. I'm hoping you won't though, as that means I'm moving on.
Oh and how could I forget?! We got me a new laptop with our stimulus dinero. So that means I will be able to blog more!! My old laptop finally died after 7 years. I actually can't believe it lasted that long...go mac, go! We were a one computer household for a while, totally not a big deal, but that computer is also our TV and once Joaquin goes to sleep we like our TV. Which meant no blogging time for Mama. Now I can multi-task and blog while watching TV, or even while Joaquin is eating breakfast, like now for instance!
Happy Mama's Day!!!

I know this birthday is really no different than last year's. But, actually, it is.

You see, last year I was *tee hee hee...30*! It sounded all playing grown-up like. It went a little something like this..."Oh, how old are you?" "Oh, I'm thirty!" "Yay" "Yay".

Now it's like..."How old are you?" "I'm 31." "You're thirty-something." "I know." "Like that show that was on in the 90's." "I know." "When we were, like, teenagers." "I know." "That sucks." "I know."

I remember hanging out at the bar in my twenties and seeing those *thirty-something* like people and thinking "Oh they're adults, that is why they are so sad and so miserable. I am so young and so in my twenties and I am so hot and so young. By the way, I'm so not an adult yet because I am so young. So young."

I am now, so totally an adult. I just can't get away with it anymore. It's so sad. And old. And so sad.

But! Believe it or not, I'm actually not that sad today. It was actually a pretty decent day, even though I'm thirty-something.

Work didn't suck ass. I actually got some stuff done. I also wore the cutest coat in the world that my mom got for me for my birthday. I got to have Mexican food for lunch and even splurged on a diet coke. It was the yummiest diet coke. Ever.

My mom and sis came over this afternoon and we looked at my sister's wedding photos a whole two months after the wedding. They're actually very awesome. Then my mom swept Joaquin away while Dan and I went for sushi and then got a yummy chocolate cake to bring home.

So, it was actually a good day. Even though I'm an old thirty-something adult.

I. am. so. tired.

I went to bed too late. Joaquin woke up too many times. He then woke up way too early. I am now at work. I'm PMSing.

And as of tomorrow, I am IN my 30's.

Do you hear that? That's the world's tiniest violin. Playing just for me.

***Warning: Lot's of profanity to follow, so STOP reading if you're easilty offended by the F word***

That's right, Thank God it's Fucking Friday. Yep, I said it. Fuck.

I have a dirty mouth. It's awful. I cuss. A lot. I know it's not lady like. Or even makes me look like a respectable educated person. But I just can't help myself, especially working where I work. These kids cuss like there is no tomorrow. And I'm supposed to keep them from doing it. That's hard when the first chance I get out of earshot I start of with "That fucking mother fucker, can you believe that asshole..." Nice, right? Seriously, when they cuss in front of me, I don't even catch it half the time. I'm so jaded, it doesn't even phase me. How awful is that?

Dan and I were in the car the other day and I was telling him a story. Of course every other word was "fuck" "asshole" or "shit". Something like, "So this fucking asshole gives me this pile of shit...". Then Dan starts babbling at Joaquin, making faces through the mirror at the light. As the light turns green, he gets cut off and he starts with, "Mother FUCKER, god damned douche bag!"

I had to laugh and then turn to him, "you know...we have horrible language."
"I know, we need to do something about it."
"I know"...then we sit in silence. I mean if we can't cuss, then what's the fucking point?

One of these days, I'll be on here with Joaquin's first cuss word all worried about what the hell we're going to do. And then you all can come back and comment..."I fucking told you so!"

Moving my ass.

When I was pregnant with Joaquin I gained a whopping 60 pounds. I was so worried it would never go away. Luckily, by 6 months postpartum I had lost it all, and a few months later I was actually 10 pounds under what I was when I got pregnant. I was STOKED. But now that Joaquin isn't nursing as much, I've gained those 10 back. I know I should still be happy that I'm back at my pre-preggo weight, but I've got a taste of the skinnier life and I want it back. Now.

Since we've had Joaquin our eating habits have changed dramatically for the better. We are much healthier now and are much more conscious of what we put in our bodies. But I do still have a bit of a sweet tooth, and lately it has been attracting way more dark chocolate than it should!

What I really struggle with is the whole exercise thing. I know that if I want to be healthier AND lose anymore weight I have to move my ass. As of now, it doesn't get nearly as much movement as it should. But I HATE it, I really do. I've tried gyms and in my eyes they are the equivalent to hell on Earth, or the DMV. I did do Ashtanga Yoga for a while and that went really great for me. But now it's hard to find the time to leave the family especially since I work 5 days a week. And it costs money, money that I don't have. I also used to walk a lot, and still do it once in a while, but not regularly. When I was doing it regularly, it was nice, and I had even started jogging/running. Honestly, there is no excuse as to why I can't do that anymore.

Soooo, the other day I put Joaquin in the stroller, put Bella on the leash and we went for a nice walk to our local ghetto park. We've been there a few times, and it's actually pretty decent. I'm just a snob. Once I got there I got a hair up my ass to jog around the baseball diamond. There was nobody else there so I let Bella off leash and she ran alongside me. Joaquin freaking loved it and was giggling the whole time at Bella. After a few walking and jogging laps around the diamond we hung out at the play equipment and Joaquin got to run around a bit. It actually was a perfect little routine!

So I did it again yesterday and again, it went really well. I'm even a little sore today and I love it! It feels like my body is actually doing something!

I don't know if I will lose anymore weight, or how long it will take. But I would like to get into this habit at least a few times a week. There is really no excuse anymore. At least until I find another one.
