So that's it. I'm home. I guess I'm a Stay at Home Mom now? It's for an undetermined amount of time...so does that count? I'll be taking my Maternity Leave and then Family Medical Leave and then Personal Leave of Absence. I may end up back at work by the Holidays or I may stay out the whole year. Who knows, maybe we'll even be able to pull off longer? Only time will tell.
Today is Joaquin's last day of Preschool too. It's all rather bittersweet. I'm excited for this next chapter and also a bit anxious. I hope I can do it. I hope I can be that amazing Stay at Home Mom that I've been wanting to be these past couple of years. Or even just something close will be fine, I just want to enjoy this time as much as possible.
I'll be taking it easy the rest of today, maybe talk Dan into seeing a movie...then tomorrow starts my new "job"!

A busy Saturday
Since I'll be home with Joaquin and the baby for a while, as of June 16th Joaquin will no longer be in pre-school. I figure I should do some home preschool type of activities with him to keep up the enrichment he was getting at school. I'm not going to drive myself crazy with it, but want to do something here and there. He has a few obsessions lately, and one of them is firetrucks, so a firetruck theme for the next few weeks it is! I made a list of a bunch of firetruck themed picture books and off to the library we went on Saturday morning to get them all.
I am really embarrassed to admit actually, that we have yet to take him to the library. I haven't even stepped foot in a public library in about 7 years. I know, right? I would have put all the books I wanted on hold to make it all easier, but since I didn't have a library card yet, I had to do it myself this first time. It was kind of hard with Joaquin all over the place checking out all the books while I was trying to search for different authors while hunched over or crawling on my hand and knees...but we managed. I also found a few books on becoming a big brother and we ended up with almost 20 books on our first trip. In the car as we were leaving Joaquin told me he felt happy, when I asked him why, if it was because he had so many new books, he gave me a big nod with a huge smile. Adorable. I found a bunch of activities all themed around firetrucks online and will start doing those with Joaquin once I'm off. I'm looking forward to this next adventure with Joaquin and will be sure to document and blog as much as I can!
After the library I had to make a quick trip to the mall to get a bridal shower gift. I have it down now. I pull up the registry at home, circle my options, walk in the store and ask them to point me in the right direction. It took us a whole five minutes, in and out! With a kid like Joaquin, I just don't feel like dilly dallying in Crate & Barrel! Then we stopped off at Old Navy just because their kids clothes are always so cute. As we were checking out Joauqin saw a giant toy dispenser thing with big high bounce balls. He asked me so sweetly "Mommy, can I have a ball please?" They were only a quarter so I said of course and let him put the quarter in and turn the knob. He was in love. In love with a pink and blue high bounce ball. We got in the car and headed home for nap, about half way there while still cuddling with his ball, out of the blue he said "Thank you for my ball, Mommy." My heart melted, "Of course babe, you're very welcome."
During his nap I snuck off to my bridal shower for a couple of hours and returned to Joaquin and Dan getting ready to head to the zoo. I was already pretty tired, but figured why not. We spent a couple of hourse wandering the new Elephant exhibit and shared a big soft serve ice cream. As we were leaving I had the totally random idea of going to the drive-in to see a movie. So we got home and packed up our stuff and headed back out.
We got there a bit early, but Joaquin had fun pretending to drive the car. We battled the big battle to get his PJs on and I totally expected him to pass out by 9 at the latest. Nope, he was into the dinosaurs as we watched Land of the Lost and didn't fall asleep until the ride home.
I was beat, but days like Staturday are too awesome to complain about. Looking forward to the next!C

Pregnant Mom's Getaway!
Three of my pregnant girlfriends, Julia, Kelli, Lisa and I, decided we all needed to run off, just for a night. Run off to get in some much needed pampering, relaxation and girl time before we have our next children. We stayed local, but it felt plenty far away and it was perfect...even with the dreary weather.
We started off our day with our prenatal yoga class. From there Lisa and I went for a big and awesome breakfast, and a little bit of shopping. Then we were off to our destination of The Marriot in Del Mar. When we got there we debated whether or not we wanted to cram four of our pregnant selves into two double beds or upgrade to two rooms...we decided that this was the only time we were going to get to do anything like this for at least another year or longer, so why not?
Julia and Kelli soon met us and the next few hours consisted of giggling, snacking, lounging and chatting. We were hoping to do all of this poolside, but alas the May Gray didn't allow it. It turns out it didn't matter. We were all perfectly content in the hotel room as proven by our many fits of laughter.
We even had facials! Julia hooked up a deal and we had someone come in and give us each a half hour prenatal facial. Of course we had to call the front desk for our fancy robes to add to the effect. After our facials, more snacking and giggling we set off for dinner. The waitress got a kick out of the fact that all four of us were with child. I guess we were quite the sight to see?
We returned to our room, took a dip in the spa and came back to a lovely bottle of organic red wine that we all shared, with plenty leftover..don't worry.
It was glorious to sleep in the super luxurious "marshmallow" beds without a single "MMOOOMMMYYYY" or foot in the back. Of course we were all awake by 7:30 because our little people have us good and trained, but it's OK because we ordered room service for breakfast and it was scheduled to come at 8am. Breakfast in bed followed by an uninterrupted shower ended our stay.
It was perfect and I'm so grateful for the ladies that made it so fabulous. I'm looking forward to raising another little person with the support and love of your friendships!

Woops! 29 week belly!
I totally forgot to post my 29 week belly pic. This was last Saturday and we were on our way to a wedding and late yet again. I don't look too happy because I wasn't. I swear, we can't get anywhere on time no matter how early I start to get everybody ready!!
As of today, I'm 30 weeks, so about 10 weeks left...holy crap!

For a number of reasons I've been feeling very unsure about so many things lately. It's all really too much to go into right now...just lots of uncertainty piled on top of more uncertainty.
I think all of these feelings of insecurity have seeped into pretty much everything for me lately. Suddenly I became super paranoid that baby girl wasn't really a baby girl. I couldn't think of names, I couldn't bring myself to go through Joaquin's clothes in fear that I would get rid of boy clothes we would end up needing. I started thinking about it everyday. I never told Dan because I thought he would just think I was being silly. Then at our hospital tour, we were talking to another couple and they were talking about getting a 4d Ultrasound. He thought it sounded cool and so I told him about how I was feeling. So he said we should just do it!
We invited both parents and on Wednesday, we all got to see baby GIRL all cuddled up in my belly.
Joaquin was wayyy more interested in the jelly on my stomach, but he did get the idea of what was going on. Now he keeps touching my belly asking about the "baby in your belly?"
She's a cutey and we swear already looks like Joaquin. She's got the cutest little heart shaped lips and lots of hair.
She's also head down! I was getting kind of worried about this because of where I was feeling movement...turns out her feet are under my ribs and she's kicking the hell out of them!
I'm feeling better and excited again. I'm ready to tackle the bags of clothes we have to pull out the more gender neutral stuff. We have some ideas for names, but will still keep it on the hush hush.

32 years old and 27 weeks pregnant
I turned 32 yesterday! It was a lovely day that started out with Joaquin singing me the most adorable version of Happy Birthday. I got flowers from a student and was in a meeting where the staff sang me Happy Birthday. The evening ended with my parents, Dan and Joaquin taking me out for sushi, don't worry, I only ate the cooked stuff. It was a wonderful day and I couldn't ask for more.
I also finally took another belly picture. Here I am at 27 weeks.
I know, I know. I'm big.
It's kind of freaking me out actually. I know how big I got with Joaquin and I was hoping I could curb that a bit with diet and exercise. While I'm not gaining as much weight as I did, I am still getting pretty much just as giant! It doesn't help when people at work assume I'm due any day or ask if I'm having twins either. "Nope", I tell them, "I'm just fat, thanks!"
I'm really trying to enjoy the belly and not worry about the weight, but it's hard for a girl who has struggled with weight all of her life! I know, I know, I'm pregnant, it's supposed to happen, it's all baby, it's natural blah blah blah.
Oh well...anyway 13 more weeks to go...movin' on into the third trimester!
