Pregnant Mom's Getaway!

Three of my pregnant girlfriends, Julia, Kelli, Lisa and I, decided we all needed to run off, just for a night. Run off to get in some much needed pampering, relaxation and girl time before we have our next children. We stayed local, but it felt plenty far away and it was perfect...even with the dreary weather.

We started off our day with our prenatal yoga class. From there Lisa and I went for a big and awesome breakfast, and a little bit of shopping. Then we were off to our destination of The Marriot in Del Mar. When we got there we debated whether or not we wanted to cram four of our pregnant selves into two double beds or upgrade to two rooms...we decided that this was the only time we were going to get to do anything like this for at least another year or longer, so why not?

Julia and Kelli soon met us and the next few hours consisted of giggling, snacking, lounging and chatting. We were hoping to do all of this poolside, but alas the May Gray didn't allow it. It turns out it didn't matter. We were all perfectly content in the hotel room as proven by our many fits of laughter.

We even had facials! Julia hooked up a deal and we had someone come in and give us each a half hour prenatal facial. Of course we had to call the front desk for our fancy robes to add to the effect. After our facials, more snacking and giggling we set off for dinner. The waitress got a kick out of the fact that all four of us were with child. I guess we were quite the sight to see?

Pregnant Mom's Getaway!

We returned to our room, took a dip in the spa and came back to a lovely bottle of organic red wine that we all shared, with plenty leftover..don't worry.

It was glorious to sleep in the super luxurious "marshmallow" beds without a single "MMOOOMMMYYYY" or foot in the back. Of course we were all awake by 7:30 because our little people have us good and trained, but it's OK because we ordered room service for breakfast and it was scheduled to come at 8am. Breakfast in bed followed by an uninterrupted shower ended our stay.

It was perfect and I'm so grateful for the ladies that made it so fabulous. I'm looking forward to raising another little person with the support and love of your friendships!

I got a haircut, I got a haircut!

And it's rather dramatic, even for me! I'm still getting used to it, but I think I really like it.

Yet another new haircut!

I actually found out some really horrible horrible news today. I really don't have the energy to share it right now, but I will tell you that I have another funeral to go to soon. I'm distracting myself with my new hair. Maybe I'll update when we have more solid details.

toes

I took Joaquin to the in-laws today to get a few hours off. My plan was to go home and do some cleaning, nothing exciting. But on my way home, my mom called and invited me over for breakfast. I reminded her that I didn't have Joaquin and she still wanted me. Shocking! Often when I go visit, she immediately goes for Joaquin and I rarely even get a "hello". Dan and I snicker about it all the time, so I was pretty surprised she actually wanted to just hang out with me and not her dear grandson. I went over and we enjoyed a leisurely gossip filled breakfast on her deck.

Then she invited me out for pedicures. A pedicure?!?! I haven't had one of those since my friend's bachelorette spa day back in May... of 2007. The time before that was in the last month of my pregnancy waiting for Joaquin to pop out. So off we went and got our toes done. I love getting my toes done, it just makes me happy and they're so purdy now!

I normally don't wear any polish or color on them so I decided to go all out and funky and get a dark dark purple. They make me smile.

Thanks mommy, you made my day!

Hung over.

Last night Dan and I went on our June date night. Our friend's band was playing at a nearby bar and my mom so kindly offered to take Joaquin for the night. It was only his second time overnight with her but we were ready to give it another shot and willingly handed him over. He was so excited and all over the place when we got there, he didn't even have the time to say good bye.

When we got home I attempted a nap so we didn't end up eating before we went out. Big mistake. While at the bar I proceeded to have four Pear Ciders. Four. I can't even remember the last time I had one, so four was another big mistake. When it was time to go home neither of us really felt like stopping for food, my final mistake.

This morning when I woke up I felt like I had been run over by a very big truck containing lots and lots of Pear Cider. When I get this hung over, I can't keep anything down. So I threw up any liquids I tried to ingest. My head was pounding and my body was trembling. Nope, not a good thing.

I talked to my mom at about 9am and she said Joaquin was sleeping because he had woken up at 4:45 and didn't go back down until 8:30. My poor mom. So she said not to worry about picking him up until later. Thank goodness. I slept as much as my body would allow me, but by 11 there was no way I was going to get up and get Joaquin, so off Dan went.

He called me about an hour later to tell me he stopped at his parents to give me a bit more recovery time, thank you dear husband. By the time they got home, Joaquin was back asleep for his afternoon nap and I am now feeling much better. I can now keep liquids down and I'm seriously craving some greasy food. Another sign that my body is getting better!

So, note to future self....eat before you go out, don't drink 4 drinks ever again, and if you don't eat before you drink, please eat afterwards.
